Melanie Grant is an operating partner, senior executive, outside strategic/legal advisor and board member with a distinguished track record of creating value for multi-billion dollar growth businesses. Melanie’s deep management, legal and finance experience includes driving change during operational transformations, leading successful domestic and international M&A transactions and advising private and public companies during strategic corporate events.

Through her law and consulting firm, Melanie Grant LLC, Melanie specializes in working as interim management or as part of the deal team on significant corporate transactions and post-acquisition integration initiatives. With close to 20 years of “sink or swim” experience at Goldman Sachs, Morgan Lewis, ARAMARK and Bain Capital’s portfolio company, Burlington Coat Factory, Melanie is effective at applying a sophisticated toolkit to develop and execute plans to drive value.

Melanie is currently working with the management team of a PE/VC backed, NY-based, emerging growth Technology company as it prepares to launch its IPO in the latter part of 2014.

In 2013, Melanie led a global team as Operating Partner-Legal for SK Capital (middle market NY-based PE firm) in closing an asset carve out spanning 47 countries with projected annual revenue of $1.3 billion. Under her leadership, a new, specialty chemicals operating company called Archroma was formed from three business units of Clariant Corporation.

From 2006 through 2011, Melanie was an integral part of the executive management team of Burlington Coat Factory, a Bain Capital portfolio company. She was the first post-buyout executive added to the leadership team. As Senior Corporate Counsel, she successfully recapitalized the company to publicly register $400 million in debt. After a year, upon request by Bain Capital and the CEO, Melanie assumed the role of resident Operating Partner with the title, Vice President of Corporate Development working directly with the CEO on re-defining, leading and managing 27 value creation initiatives across marketing, finance, supply chain, human resources, IT and store operations. She formed and managed numerous cross-functional teams to successfully double revenue and significantly improve profitability. As reported by the press, Bain Capital successfully exited at 4.25x its invested capital through an IPO in 2013.

Prior to joining Burlington, Melanie was Assistant General Counsel of ARAMARK and served as Counsel to Seamless Web post its acquisition. Prior to ARAMARK, Melanie was an associate with Morgan Lewis in Philadelphia where she specialized in financings, securities offerings, and domestic and international mergers & acquisitions.

Melanie started her career at Goldman Sachs in New York as a Financial Analyst in the mortgage market and was later promoted to Associate focused on debt capital markets and electronic trading. She represented Goldman on a number of associations and held Series 7 and Series 63 securities licenses.
Melanie was featured in Deloitte’s Women On Boards publication in 2009 and is currently on the Board of Governors of the YMCA, Burlington & Camden Counties serving as Vice Chair of the Governance Committee. Melanie actively mentors entrepreneurs and is a trusted formal and informal advisor to business owners and intermediaries in the capital markets.

Melanie earned her JD from the University of Virginia, School of Law and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Rutgers College where she was President of the student body. She lives with her husband and children in Moorestown, New Jersey.
